THE VANDERBILT MOTHER LODE ON THE ROAD

.

Remember when Memorial Gym was the respite a Vanderbilt basketball team needed in the middle of winter and the strain of an SEC season?

It's a different world in 2017, but the good part of the new equation is that the Commodores lock things down on the road these days. VU's road ode isn't a sad one this year. Taking care of business at home remains elusive for Bryce Drew's team, but Saturday's road trip doesn't feel like a worrisome prospect at all...

... which is why Drew counterintuitively needs to make sure his team is attentive to the task at hand in Columbia against the Missouri Tigers.

A week ago, another team came to CoMo, probably thinking it could put forth an average effort, punch the time clock, and walk out of town with a win on a Saturday afternoon. That team was the one Vanderbilt just demolished in Fayetteville on Tuesday night, the Arkansas Razorbacks. Mike Anderson's team had good reason to think that it would be able to snag fourth place in the SEC -- and as a result a double-bye in the conference tournament -- by this point on the calendar. Instead, the Hogs were "Woo Pig Ewwwy" against Mizzou, an absolute mess at both ends of the floor. Instead of being alert and sharp against the Tigers, who had not won a game since early December, Arkansas got ambushed, and its season (especially its NCAA Tournament situation) now lies in a much darker place.
