Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason continues to seek out outstanding talent to bolster his already tough defense. On Tuesday the Commodore staff extended an offer to Memphis Whitehaven cornerback Rayshad Williams.
Rayshad Williams is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound cornerback who already has offers from Memphis, Arkansas, Tennessee and more. A first-team All-State defensive back as a junior, his highest star-rating is 3-stars but look for that to increase as he gains more power conference offers. Watching is video below, you can see that he has great footwork, speed and tackling ability which are necessary for successful corners. His size is also certainly a factor that attracted the Vanderbilt staff as Mason is a coach who looks for that in players.
Can Vanderbilt gain his services? If the Commodores can get him in for a visit they have a shot. Vanderbilt assistant coach Chris Marve, a Memphis native, could go a long way towards making that visit and, ultimately, a Williams commit to Vanderbilt happen.
