Vanderbilt added another jewel to its 2018 recruiting class on Tuesday when consensus 4-star linebacker Alston Orji announced his commit to head coach Derek Mason and his staff.
"My new home for the next 4 years🙌🏾💯Will be a Commodore" wrote Orji in a twitter announcement. He tagged his tweet to Mason and Vandy linebacker's coach Chris Marve.
Orji, a Rockwall, Texas prospect who camped at Vandy's Junior Day back in March, has a ton of big time offers. Michigan, Notre Dame, Baylor, LSU, Georgia, TCU, UCLA, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M are just a few of the schools that offered Orji.
What makes Orji such a great player? Greg Powers of Scout.com calls Orji "one of the more intimidating physical specimens that you will find." Powers goes to say that "He is a good tackler on tape and is a tremendous run stopper, but we also like seeing him making plays in space in the passing game."
Orji has a younger brother, Anfernee, who is a 2019 football prospect. A 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety prospect, the younger Orji already has several power conference offers including an offer from Vandy.
Mason and his staff have pulled in some big time commits so far in the 2018 recruiting year. One service even has Vanderbilt ranked ahead of Alabama in its team recruiting rankings. Pretty impressive stuff.
