Vanderbilt gained a 5-star commit on Thursday when heavily recruited defensive back Tre Douglas stunned the college football world by picking Vandy.
You may roll your eyes because the four big corporation recruiting networks all give Tre Douglas just three or four stars but take a look at his offer list and you'll see programs such as Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State who happen to be the teams that won the past three college football national championships.
Overall, Douglas had offers from Alabama, App State, Cincinnati, Clemson, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Oregon State, Penn State, Rutgers, South Carolina, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, West Virginia, and USC.
He had recently narrowed his list of schools to seven including Vanderbilt, Clemson, Stanford, LSU, Florida State, Ohio State and Virginia Tech (his first offer).
Regardless of whether you agree or disagree on the number of stars Douglas should be rated, he is a huge pickup for the Commodore nation.
Douglas, who helped lead Eagles Landing Christian Academy to an undefeated state championship season in 2016, announced his commit in a twitter message, "I would like to announce I will be furthering my education and football career for four years at.. Vanderbilt!"
Douglas is also a standout baseball player for Eagles Landing. He earned All-State honors this year after leading his league in hitting, recording a .419 batting average and a .575 on-base percentage. He also scored 22 runs.
