Nashville, Tenn. – Senior Ralph Webb has been named to the Maxwell Award preseason watch list for the second straight year.
Vanderbilt’s all-time leading rusher enters his final season at Vanderbilt with 3,342 yards rushing and holds eight other all-time school records. He has established the best marks in VU history for each class in his first three years, owning the top rushing seasons for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Last season, the Gainesville, Fla. native ran for a Vanderbilt single-season school record 1,283 yards to take over the all-time and single-season records from former Commodore great Zac Stacy.
Webb enters the season 20th on the Southeastern Conference’s all-time rushing list as the second-leading active rusher behind only Georgia’s Nick Chubb. Just seven student-athletes have eclipsed 4,000 yards in the history of the league with Herschel Walker running for a league record 5,259 yards.
Webb is one of 20 SEC players on the preseason watch list. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the nation’s best all-around player as judged by a panel of sportscasters, sportswriters and head coaches along with the membership of the Maxwell Football Club.
