VANDERBILT FIRST LOOK: FLORIDA

The Vanderbilt Commodores visit Florida on Saturday in Gainesville. Here are your three keys to a Commodore win over the Gators.

SEASON SO FAR

Florida (2-1, 2-0 SEC) opened its season with a 33-17 loss to Michigan. After Hurricane Irma caused game two to be canceled, the following Saturday the Gators beat Tennessee on a late bomb thrown to the end zone. Most recently Florida rallied from a 27-14 second-half deficit to win at Kentucky 28-27 on a last-second field goal. The Gator offense averages 23.7 points scored per game while the Florida defense allows 26.7 points a contest. Florida's offense is gaining an average of 322.3 yards per game while the defense allows 405 yards. Freshman running back Malik Davis leads the Gators in rushing with 195 yards on 26 carries (7.5 ypc). Feleipe Franks has completed 30 of 49 passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception but Luke Del Rio is expected to start for Florida. Wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland has 13 catches for 259 yards and two touchdowns.

CHALLENGES

The Commodores have to put the memory of the Alabama disaster behind them; that will be hard to do though. It was a traumatic, nightmare of a game but with eight winnable games remaining the Commodores can't afford to be pouting over the Bama game. They've got to be ready both physically and mentally for the Gators and the heat that they haven't had to deal with yet. This Florida team is very fortunate to be 2-1. Vandy has a shot at pulling off a huge road victory if they can get their mental state back to what it was just before the Kansas State game. With the status 18 Gator players for the Vandy game as "out", "questionable" or "expected to miss," there is a wonderful opportunity for the Commodores on Saturday.
